Toned Landscapes
I like the look of screentone on black and white artwork. I particularly like real, physical tone, cut out and applied by hand. That’s the way this project started, but unfortunately all the tone here has been applied digitally after-the-fact. I do have some real screens that I’ve used from time to time, but not enough for a project like this, and as far as I can tell in order to get it new these days it has to be ordered from Japan at $12 a sheet. A bit much for what this is. I’ve tried making my own by printing dots on clear mailing labels, but the adhesive was too strong and the labels cloudy, so that it was both difficult to work with and reproduced poorly. Anyway, this is not bad. Hell, I can have any pattern I want — it is strictly better. Still, I am often attracted to the tactile nature of physical materials.
