On the way

Last week I posted a video on my Instagram (and Threads, I guess, but I’m still not sure what that’s for) of me flipping through a proof of the Opplopolis collected edition. So, yes, that is happening. Here are the deets.

I am preparing a Kickstarter for this project to raise money for a small print-run. I’ll have an update with a link to that page as soon as it’s approved.

There will be two editions of the book (three if you count digital only). There’s what I’m calling the “reader’s edition” — this will be a more-or-less standard-sized paperback graphic novel. 512 pages, full-color. This will be the main format, which I intend to keep in print and offer on the website.

There will also be a “collector’s edition” which will be exclusive to the Kickstarter campaign. This will be an over-sized (A4) hardcover book. If you saw my Instagram video, it’s that size, but case-bound rather than paperback. This is the book I’m making for myself, and I’m only going to print as many as I have to to cover backer rewards plus a few extra and no more. Hell, I’ll sign them all, too.

There will be other backer rewards, including two tiers of original art. For details on that, check out the Kickstarter when it goes live.

Oh, and if the Kickstarter fails, don’t worry. I’ll still make the reader’s edition available somehow, it just might end up more expensive (and I’ll be keeping the hardcover for myself.)

Besides that, I’m going to be working on the website itself in the next couple of weeks. Thing is, we’re going into business here, and I seriously considered taking both Opplopolis and NPWIL down and linking to their respective commercial incarnations. I don’t have it in me to do that though. I am going to add a landing page, though, directing people to the paid books and kind of tuck the free versions away in the fine-print. Maybe. Actually, that sounds pretty deceptive written out like that — but the point is, this is going to start to look more like a publisher’s website (which, somehow, it has turned out to be.)

If all goes well, I’ll be shipping books out in October/November. Hopefully in plenty of time for Christmas.
